Congratulations to SPbU team with the winning in FDI-moot arbitration competition!

On November 10, 2019, the final of the largest international investment arbitration competition FDI-moot took place at the University of Miami. The St. Petersburg State University Law School team, sponsored by Horizon Global, won the final rounds of the competition, winning the Skadden, Arps Trophy. In total, about 155 speakers and 60 teams from different countries including the USA, Singapore, France, Germany, Canada, etc. took part in the final rounds of the competition.

In 2019, the competition’s fable touched upon the issues of social media blockages as a potential expropriation, the state’s denunciation of the 1965 Washington Convention, as well as the calculation of losses. The competition case was published in February 2019, and for several months the teams worked on writing memorandums for the plaintiff and defendant, as well as preparing speeches before the Tribunal.

In addition to the team-wide victory, the students also won personal awards. Thus, Nika Vartanova became the Best Speaker of the Final, and Natalia Kovalkova was among the top ten speakers of the qualifying rounds (Honorable Mention Advocate). The team was also represented by Darya Soshnikova, Daniil Odud and Ilya Zobkov.

This is the first victory of St. Petersburg State University for all the time participating in the FDI moot. We sincerely congratulate the team and wish them further success!
